The Aseniwuche Winewak Nation
The Rocky Mountain People ᐊᓯᓂᐊᐧᒋ ᐃᐧᓂᐊᐧᐠ of Aseniwuche Winewak Nation (AWN) were exceptional horse people with intimate knowledge of the mountain areas they lived in. The Aseniwuche Winewak people were originally based in Jasper Valley, but when the Jasper National Park was created in 1907, they were forced to move to the present-day Grande Cache and Smoky River area. The Aseniwuche Winewak were not included in Treaty 8 and are considered a non-status group by the federal government.
Aseniwuche Winewak Nation Partnership
In September 2020, CDN Controls signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Aseniwuche Winewak Nation (AWN). The agreement provides the foundation for future community support, capacity building, training, meaningful employment, and business opportunities. The partnership will also allow CDN to continue to grow our understanding of AWN’s local and cultural land use values, such that they can be incorporated into our work in a meaningful way.
CDN has an established local presence in Grande Cache, Alberta with a branch office located there since 2015; thus we are quite excited to further our commitment to the community and surrounding area by establishing this formal partnership with AWN.
In 2021, we further collaborated with Aseniwuche Winewak Nation on a Caribou Policy for driving and operations in caribou areas. The project is currently in progress. We look forward to what we can achieve together, as partners.
