After spending ten years in the instrumentation trade, Dean founded CDN Controls Ltd. with Nick Stewart in 2011. Dean is a Journeyman Instrument Technician with his Interprovincial Red Seal, with over 15 years of oil and gas experience. Having spent time working in both the production and service sectors, Dean has developed a well-rounded approach to doing business.
Since the launch of CDN, Dean has been an integral part of its growth—from five employees to over 300. In recent years, Dean’s focus has shifted from day-to-day operations to business development, strategic planning, and the continual growth of the company. With Dean’s leadership, dedication to safety, industry knowledge, and expert management team, CDN has the necessary tools to continue to excel.
Nick Stewart is one of the original founders of CDN Controls Ltd. Nick was born and raised on Prince Edward Island and moved to Grande Prairie in 2001 after completing a two-year industrial technologist program. Nick is an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Electrician and Master Electrician in Alberta and a Field Safety Representative (FSR) in British Columbia.
Nick has worked in both construction and maintenance since starting his career in 2001, with a focus on project management and supervision. From his original position as Operations Manager at CDN, Nick has moved to his current role of overseeing construction. Nick has a hands-on approach and enjoys working directly with all levels of the CDN team.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Jamie Saunders relocated to Grande Prairie in 2001 after completing the Electrical Engineering Technology program at NAIT. He began his career at an engineering firm as an Electrical and Controls Systems Designer, where he worked on several projects from large, complete plant design to small, single-well SCADA design. During his time in engineering, he was exposed to the programming and field automation portion of the business. His interest was instantly piqued and he switched careers, coming to work at CDN as an Automation Support Specialist in 2013.
He moved to management in the spring of 2013, becoming the Automation Manager, creating a well-versed and respected automation department in a division that didn’t previously exist. In the late fall of 2013, he was promoted to General Manager of CDN Controls. He enjoys the opportunity to work more with staff, clients, and CDN’s other branches.
David joined CDN Controls in October 2015 as Chief Financial Officer, and is focused on providing analysis and controls to the organization as it continues its growth path.
Prior to CDN Controls, David was a key Finance leader at Ironline Compression, a leading rental, service and parts distribution oilfield services company located in Alberta and BC. David’s focus was leading and developing a new Finance team through a carve-out and creating reporting and internal controls to facilitate timely and accurate decision making for both sales and operations.
In the early years, David spent approximately 8 years in the oilfield services industry working in both the US and Canada. David’s experience includes finance and business development as well as a significant amount of time working with and for Private Equity groups and individuals.
Dan Longtin is the Automation Manager at CDN Controls and holds a Computer Systems Technology Diploma from Grande Prairie Regional College. Dan spent 15 years as a communications technician and an automation specialist. In the course of his career, he has built new SCADA networks to program large oil and gas facilities and managed large automation projects.
Before joining CDN Controls in 2013, Dan worked for 10 years at such companies as Conoco Phillips and Taqa North. Passionate about growth and new opportunities, Dan strives to keep current with the latest technologies to help continuing business growth.
Joe formally joined the management team at CDN Controls in April 2017 as Director of Business Process Management after providing support on a consultancy basis over the last two years. Joe is responsible for corporate administrative operations, supply chain management, and IT and business systems within CDN Controls.
Prior to CDN Controls, Joe provided business consulting and management support to various organizations within the oil & gas, financial services, and telecommunication industries within the areas of procurement, supply chain, information technology, and mergers and acquisitions support. Prior to consulting, Joe worked for Nortel Networks for 17 years in various executive roles with accountabilities in global procurement, strategic sourcing, manufacturing operations, and business integration leadership.
Joe holds a bachelors degree in Economics from McMaster University and a post-graduate diploma in International Business from Seneca College. Joe has a passion for driving continuous improvement within business processes and working to build high performing teams to enable optimal efficiency and business growth. Joe is excited to bring his in-depth business experience and managerial skills to CDN Controls.
